Executive Summary

Located on the southeast coast, Palm Beach County is the largest of Florida's 67 counties. As part of Florida’s Gold Coast, Palm Beach ​County is bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean with 47 miles of shoreline. It is located north of Fort Lauderdale and Miami, and ​south of Orlando. The County's 2,385 square miles include 1,977 square miles of land and 408 square miles of surface water, making it ​one of the largest counties east of the Mississippi River. The surface water areas include the Intracoastal Waterway and approximately ​one-third of Lake Okeechobee, which is the largest freshwater lake in the state and the largest in the United States except for the Great ​Lake. Palm Beach County's climate has enhanced its image as a location that provides a high quality of life to its residents. The average ​temperature is 89 degrees in the summer and 74 degrees in the winter. The wet season extends from June through October, with an ​average annual rainfall of 62 inches. There are 39 municipalities within the County encompassing a total of 337 square miles, or ​approximately 17% of the County’s land area. As of FY 2024, an estimated 57% of the County’s population resides within the ​municipalities. The change in population since the FY 2023 reporting re ects an increase of 14,566 with a municipal growth of 9,519 and a ​concurrent increase of approximately 5,047 in the unincorporated area. West Palm Beach remains the largest city in population with ​approximately 122,157 residents within 53.81 square miles. Palm Beach Gardens is the largest city in land area with approximately 61,517 ​residents within 56.72 miles. Cloud Lake and Briny Breezes are the smallest in land area, with approximately 140 and 500 people ​respectively, living within about 0.05 and 0.06 square miles each. In addition, 14 municipalities are less than one square mile each.


The Opportunity

This is highly responsible professional work assisting the Director Facilities Development & Operations (FDO) in the management ​activities necessary to ensure its efficient and effective operation. An employee in a position allocated to this class is responsible for ​managing the daily operations of a large decentralized service organization including the development of policy, supervision of ​personnel, planning and implementation of consistent business practices among the various business units. Work involves establishing ​and maintaining effective work relationships with user departments and constitutional officers. The scope and complexity of duties ​require the exercise of considerably independent judgment with limited supervision. Work also includes acting for the Director FDO in ​their absence. Work is reviewed by the Director FDO through conferences, reports and observations of results obtained.



Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business/Public Administration, Purchasing,

Finance/Accounting, Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Urban Planning, or law; seven (7) years continuous technical ​experience in any of FDO’s business functions including four (4) years’ experience in the management and administrative aspects ​of the work; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience.


Preferred Qualifications

1. Registered as a Professional Engineer or Architect by the State of Florida.

2. Admission to the State Bar of Florida

3. Certified as CGAP (Government Audit Professional), CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), CRMA (Certified Risk Management ​Assurance)
